Fr Philip John installed as new Cambridge parish priest

On the Feast of Saints Paul Miki and Companions (February 6), Fr Philip John was installed as the new Parish Priest of Saint Philip Howard, Cherry Hinton in Cambridge reports Bienn Carlo Manuntag.

In his homily, Bishop Alan reminded everyone that the installation of a new parish priest, is a moment of grace and a moment of challenge and opportunity both for Fr Philip and for the parish community.

He also emphasised the importance of prayer – that it must be the heart of a priest’s daily life. That without that heart at its centre, priesthood has no purpose and certainly no lasting effect. And prayer must also be at the heart of the daily life of each member of the Parish community. Without prayer, parish renewal can never really begin. Prayer opens up our lives to the possibility of God’s working in and through our lives.

Bishop Alan also thanked Mgr Canon Eugene Harkness for his pastoral ministry in the Parish. Mgr Eugene will be installed as the new parish priest of Our Lady of the Assumption and the English Martyrs in Cambridge on March 19, the Feast of Saint Joseph.
