Lady Dannatt to attend requiem Mass for Prince Philip

The Diocese of East Anglia  is to hold two requiem Masses for Prince Philip this week, which will be attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, Lady Phillipa Dannatt, and Peter Wilson, her deputy.

In Norwich, a Solemn Requiem Mass will be offered for His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, by Bishop Alan Hopes in the Cathedral of St John the Baptist, Unthank Road, on Wednesday April 14 at 6pm. It will be attended by Lady Dannatt who, as Lord Lieutenant, is the Queen’s official representative in Norfolk. She will be accompanied by her husband General The Lord Richard Dannatt.

No booking is now required for this Mass, so please just turn up, but social distancing precautions are still in place.

In King’s Lynn a sung requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation, London Road, on Friday April 16 at 12 noon.

Peter Wilson, Vice Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, will be paying a tribute in to Prince Philip during this King’s Lynn requiem.

Bishop Alan, on behalf of Catholics across the Diocese of East Anglia, said: “We pray for the repose of the soul of His Royal Highness, the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. In mourning his death, we express our sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family.

“Prince Philip’s long life was marked by an extraordinary example of duty and service to his Queen and his country. Countless individuals will have been touched by his many initiatives, particularly young people. His fidelity in family life, even in times of difficulty, has been inspiring. May he now rest in peace.”

The Duke of Edinburgh died at Windsor Castle on Friday morning, at the age of 99.
