Bishop Alan follows ancient pilgrims to Red Mount

Bishop Alan Hopes celebrated a private Mass in the 15th-century Chapel of Our Lady on the Mount in King’s Lynn on September 20.

The Red Mount Chapel was built as a staging post for pilgrims on their way to Walsingham. After the Reformation it became the property of the Borough Council who allow King’s Lynn Catholics to celebrate Mass in it during the summer months.

Bishop Alan commented that he felt surrounded by the invisible presence of all those pilgrims who had passed through the chapel throughout the ages.

Pictured above is Bishop Alan with local parishioners at the Red Mount Chapel.
