Norfolk Catholic author finds inspiration from Norway

Norfolk author Anita Dowsing reports that a group of Christian organisations in Norway, including the Catholic Church, has recently produced a document on Gender Diversity. While it is interesting to her, she believes that it will also interest many others in the Diocese of East Anglia.

The document focuses on three main topics: The doctrine of the Bible on gender, what we can learn from biology and the best ways of teaching these subjects to children.

On the Bible, the report states that God created mankind as male and female and that marriage can only be between one man and one woman.

On biology, it states, against current trends, that there are only two biological sexes: female and male, and that sex is determined from conception.

On methods of teaching, the document says that it is unhelpful to teach children that ‘gender is subjective … and that sexual and gender identity can be freely chosen’ on a basis of how particular persons feel about themselves.

Anita said: ”This document is clear, concise and easy to read and sensitively phrased. It urges

respect for all, regardless of what they believe and how they live, and it is well worth reading.”
