Just and Peace Commission Talk on Modern Slavery

The Just and Peace commission is giving a free talk on Modern Slavery with Mark Little MBE and Simon John, exploring what it is, how to spot it, and what you can do to help. The talk will be held at the Cathedral on 6 February.

Modern slavery is one of the gravest human rights violations of our time. It takes many forms, including forced labour, human trafficking, domestic servitude, and sexual exploitation, with millions of people worldwide trapped in conditions of servitude. Shockingly, this is not just an issue in distant countries—it exists right here in the UK, in cities and rural areas alike. Victims are often vulnerable individuals, deceived or coerced into situations where they are exploited for profit.

Despite the scale of the problem, modern slavery remains largely hidden. Raising awareness is a crucial first step in combating this injustice. By understanding what modern slavery is, learning how to recognise it, and knowing what actions to take, we can all play a role in eradicating this crime.

That is why the Just and Peace Commission invites you to an eye-opening talk by Mark Little MBE and Simon John, two leading advocates in the fight against modern slavery.

What You Will Learn

This talk will provide essential insights into:

  • What modern slavery is and how it manifests in today’s world.
  • How to spot the signs in your community or workplace.
  • What you can do to help victims and support efforts to end exploitation.

Recognised for his work, Mark was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List in 2022 for “Services to victims of Modern Day Slavery”.
