Yarmouth couple honoured for 40 years of service

A Great Yarmouth couple, who have recently celebrated 65 years of marriage, have been presented with an East Anglian Diocesan medal in recognition of over 40 years' of service in the parish of St Mary's.

On Sunday June 19, Kevin and Mollie Marsden received their medals from parish priest Fr Philip Shryne.

Fr Philip said: "Kevin and Mollie are two of our most longstanding and deeply devout and willing parishioners and this is recognition and thanks for the wonderful work they have done in the parish over more than 40 years."

For very many years Mollie has led the Sunday morning liturgy for the children, she has led the team running the annual fetes and bazaars and always been first to offer help with any social event. Her husband Kevin, who is retired builder, has been the first port of call for any odd jobs and maintenance around the church. He can turn his hand to most things and was involved in painting the inside of St Mary's and many other jobs.

Kevin has also been the MC of the altar servers for many years and has taught generations of servers; he is also a member of the Knights of St Columba and over the years has held all of the offices of the KSC.

It was the second celebration for the couple as they also received a certificate from Bishop Alan Hopes at the Mass for Marriage and Family Life the previous day at St John's Cathedral in Norwich in recognition of their 65^th wedding anniversary ' the joint longest married couple present.

Fr Philip said: "What a great example of married life and of Christian service within the parish. It was a great joy to present you them both with the Diocesan Medal."
