East Anglia events: retreat, Cantonese, St Francis

Coming events of interest to the East Anglia Catholic community include an Advent Retreat, Cantonese Masses at Sawston, and a talk about St Francis at St John’s Cathedral.

This December the Dominican sisters in Cambridge are organising an Advent Day of Recollection retreat for women. “This is a wonderful opportunity to prepare spiritually for Christmas before the rush of the season begins,” says Marriage and Family Coordinator, Antonia Braithwaite.

The retreat, entitled “Come Lord Jesus”, will take place at St Catherine’s Convent, Cambridge CB3 0DH on Saturday December 10 at 10am, and will end with Vespers at 4pm.

If you are interested in attending, please contact Sr Angela Mary Leydon at angelaleydon@btinternet.com

Canon Hoan Minh Nguyen will be celebrating a regular Mass in Cantonese at Our Lady of Lourdes, 135 High Street, Sawston CB22 3HJ at 2pm on Saturdays.

Upcoming dates of the Cantonese Masses are November 12, December 10, January 28 and February 25.

The Masses will be followed by tea and an opportunity to mingle. More information from cantonmassea@gmail.com

The Norwich Fraternity of the Secular Franciscans are giving a talk at St John the Baptist Cathedral in Mac’s Bar on Monday November 21 at 11am. The talk is entitled “Who is St Francis and how does he fit into modern life?”  All welcome, refreshments available.’
