Norfolk schoolchildren win national award recognition

East Anglia schoolchildren have won national recognition in awards for their entries in the KSC Easter Youth Competitions. Christopher Brooks reports.

Adele Mathew, aged 8, from St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, Costessey, won the National KSC Lent Scene painting competition at Key Stage 2, achieving a certificate signed by the Supreme Knight, Henry Welsh, a £30 prize, a personal trophy as best in the overall competition, and a £200 award for her school. The presentation will be by arrangement in the new term. Victoria Unazi, aged 10, came joint third in the country in the same competition, winning a £15 prize. Their paintings are shown below.

In the KS2 Prayer Writing Competition, St Augustine’s children also did very well nationally—Chiumdiuto Kenechukwu came joint second (£20 prize), and Iniya Jessos joint third (£15 prize).

In the Easter Photo competition, Lowestoft Council 518 had success when Paolo Anderson, altar server at St Nicholas Church, achieved first place nationally at KS4, winning a trophy and £30 for himself for the Easter Candle theme and £20 for a second prize in the backdrop to the altar theme. Joysshan Johnson also won two second prizes in these themes at KS3 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, receiving £40 for his entries.

Schools will be receiving details of the Provincial Christmas Scene Painting Competition by email in the new term.
