Open invitation to join children’s Walsingham pilgrimage

The annual Diocese of East Anglia Children’s Pilgrimage to Walsingham will take place on Tuesday May 28. This is during the school half term week and an invitation to join it goes out to all.

There is no upper or lower age limit!

Co-ordinator Chris Storman said:  “Babies to teens, all are welcome. Parents and grandparents, parishioners and clergy are all invited to accompany the young ones.

“The theme this year is ‘Our Prayer for Peace in Our World’ and our walk and Mass will reflect this at Walsingham our own shrine to Our Lady who is The Queen of Peace.

The day begins at 10.45am in the Friday Market in the village. We will be greeted by Bishop Peter and walk with him to the shrine, along the old railway line. This is a safe , traffic free route for the children and is pram and buggy friendly.

“We will carry a statue of Our Lady of Walsingham with us and stroll along, pausing for prayer and singing hymns as we do.

“Mass will be the Pilgrim Mass at 12 noon at the Chapel of Reconciliation. Weather permitting, inside and outside. Children from many parishes will participate fully in the celebration,” said Chris.

A picnic in the meadow follows with a chance to visit the Slipper Chapel shrine and grounds and meet and mingle with friends. Many then head to the beach at nearby Wells-next-the-sea for more fun before returning home.
