Prayers said for new bishop election process

Masses and prayers are being offered by the Catholic community of the Diocese of East Anglia for those who, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, will seek to advise the Holy Father, Pope Francis, in his appointment of a successor to Bishop Alan Hopes who is now approaching his 77th birthday.

The Holy Father will be advised by the Congregation for Bishops in Rome, who in turn will be advised by the Papal Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Gugerotti.

The Scriptural verse on the prayer card is from 1 Samuel 2:35

“I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who shall do according to my heart and mind: I will establish a lasting house for him and he shall walk before me all his days.”

The prayer for the election of a bishop is:

O God, eternal shepherd who governs your flock with unfailing care, grant in your boundless fatherly love a pastor for your Church who will please you by his holiness and to us show watchful care.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever, Amen.

Our Lady of Walsingham, Pray for us. Saint Felix, Pray for us, All Holy Martyrs and Saints of East Anglia, Pray for us.
