As well as looking at the roof, Mr Lewis showed an interest in the damage that has been done to the mural of Our Lady of Yarmouth through water ingress.
The Safe Haven for 50 nations and the National Flags caused further positive discussion. Mr Lewis encouraged the parish in its desire to have both halls merged to make better use of the space and to provide more community services.
Brian Lafferty, Chair of the Finance Committee at St Mary’s, asked the MP to join in the current fundraising effort: “Whilst he was on site, we could not miss the opportunity to ask Mr Lewis to sponsor a tile for the roof. There was no problem with that. Mr Lewis was really impressed by our vision for St Mary’s and has pledged his support for future projects.
“I would like to thank Fr Anthony, Fr Alvan and Eloise Limmer, our Historic Churches Support Officer for the diocese, for their support in this project.”
